Plastic pallets are generally manufactured using recycled resins, which makes them cost competitive to wood pallets. One important benefit of plastic pallets for export is that they do not require special treatments as would solid wood pallets. The International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) requires that wood material (thickness exceeds 6mm) used to ship products between two countries is treated. It is a measure that was enforced by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). The main aim is to stop the spread of pests from one country to another. Nearly all countries around the world adhere to the ISPM 15 regulations.
